THE RANDOM MAGICAL EFFECTS MEME

"Your teeth turn brick red and then you turn into a bear for a week."HOW:

1. Start a thread with your character.
2. Other characters reply and generate a random effect. If you need a scenario, RNG it.
     2b. OPTIONAL: generate your own random effect, just because.
3. Tag other characters, generate more stuff, etc.
4. Shenanigans.
5. Yes you still have loveless ears and aren't in your home world have fun with that.

SCENARIOS:

1. ADVENTURE: You have just reached the end of some ancient, mystical ruins in search of the magical artifact hidden deep within. Weird shit happens as soon as you try to take it (collapsing ruins/boulders/Indiana Jones theme optional).
2. CURSE: You have angered a wizard/witch/powerful faerie/omnipotent entity/incredibly stereotypical gypsy/all of the above, somehow, because you're probably a horrible person. The next day you discover you've been cursed.
3. SPELLCRAFT: You have acquired a magical spellbook and decide to test it on yourself or someone else. The results are probably not as desired.
4. OUCH: You were bitten by a werewolf/cat/bear/dog/falcon/tiger/whatever the hell else is in there. There may or may not be some additional side effects.
5. RITUALS: You attempt to consort with demons/other entities of questionable morality and fail spectacularly-- either the ritual backfires, or they just don't like you.
6. THE BEES: It is not actually magic but a science experiment gone horribly, horribly wrong.
7. LOST: You are lost. Loster than the people on Lost. You are lost for words for how lost you are. So lost.
8. DRUG-INDUCED: I'm freakin' out man...
9. LET'S DO THIS: Roll two more numbers. Both of those things just happened at the same time, somehow. If you roll a 9 again, roll two more numbers and keep stacking them (ex. you roll a 2 and 9, then you roll again to get 5 and 6, which means you combine 2, 5, and 6).
10. Writer's choice.

Ow. [He complained, belatedly, tail twitching and fingers tightly gripping the towel. For someone with a previous occupation that came with frequent injuries, he wasn't too comfortable with this part.

He turns his head to talk over his shoulder.]

And I wasn't antagonizing anything. I was just scoping the woods and I found some... crazed bear. They should put that in the school brochure.

[Zephyr was just lucky he had that bad habit of carrying his guns still.]

[ That elicits a somewhat deeper frown. His ears go a little flat despite himself, and this time when he wipes the cloth over the cuts, it's with a tad more care. ]

"Crazed" is not a very auspicious word to be using when one is discussing animals.

[ He finishes his careful disinfection, then unrolls the bandages and begins wrapping them tightly under his arm and over the tears on his shoulder. ]

Could you see a reason for it? An injury, a wounded offspring? Something other than a potential case of rabies?

[The reaction doesn't escape notice and it keeps Zephyr's eyes off all the careful work. He keeps one eyebrow quietly raised. Yeah, he's suddenly aware his view of wild-life may be off.

Living within a machine tower did that.]

I didn't see much of anything -- it got me from behind. You think I'd hear something that size.

[All the while, he's still moving his arm whichever way to give room for bandaging.]

What are you thinking?

[ Yes, one would probably hear a manic bear. Even distracted, Zexion didn't think it was possible to somehow be able to tune out the approach of something that large. Unless a person was deaf, but given the fact that they'd...you know, been having a conversation, half of which had been in a position that made lip-reading unlikely, Zexion doubted that. ]

I'm thinking that, though Japan is ostensibly hydrophobia-free, you are due for a series of rabies vaccines.

[ He affixes the bandages together with a pin. ]

I am also thinking that I had better start doing research into whether werebears are, in fact, something that exists.

[There goes his tail, flicking back and forth again. This time, it's accompanied by his ears flattening down. Basel isn't so far along that he's not familiar with the terms rabies and vaccines. The sulky quiet makes it a question if he'll follow the advice.

He distracts himself with the bandaged arm, already testing how much he can move it with only the occasional wince. Despite all the bleeding, he must not have hit anything too vital. Nice. Zephyr looks back up at werebear though. His interest perked along with some confusion.]

What kind of bears did you say?

[Souji knows that it is most definitely Not Kyoto, and it is full of trees. Lots of trees. Unfortunately, trees are not what he was looking for]

Ehe... probably not - this forest can't be too big...

[Souji has found some sort of weird old book, and has the curiosity of a cat, on top of having the ears to match, right now. Which means leafing through it. And maybe trying to read some of it outloud under his breath as he does, though it all sounds like gibberish to him...]

[Souji looks... less disturbed by that stare than most people would be.]

I don't think there was anything special about the forest... Though I guess if you really want to go.

[it's the most entertaining prospect he has right now, anyway, even though he kind of doubts it'll actually work]

[He's so slow to respond, or at least that's the way it seems to Mello's drug-clouded minded. But once Souji agrees to go, Mello grabs him by the arm and ushers him away.]

There has to be something there, I'm positive, can you move any faster? You're taking too damn long.

[There's barely any pause between each word.]

Really?! Have you been in a forest like that before?

[She's been in treacherous woods, but not one of them had actually changed their layout.]

Too big?! We've been walking for hours!!

[She slumps down against a tree.]

What if it's some kind of never-ending forest trap?! That's happened before, you know! And who knows what else might have wandered in with us!! It'll pick us off one by one, and by the time the spell's broken, all that's gonna be left are a broken pair of glasses and -- and --

[Deep breath for dramatic effect. And also to figure out where the hell she's going with this.]

[ Adventure time! You and Setsuna have finally reached the end of a long, mysterious cavern, where your treasure awaits — the fabled catnip of legend! Your feline senses are twitching with anticipation! ]

So that's it, huh? [ Setsuna approaches the pedestal, reaching for the pouch. ] How anticlimactic. I was expecting more.

[Oh, his feline senses are twitching, alright. After all this trouble, it better be something good and a lot of it. From where Zephyr is standing, that pouch doesn't look like much.]

It's a musty, old cave. [But his ears are perked when he walks closer, stopping next to the pedestal himself. The pouch doesn't look any bigger up close.] I'm surprised there's anything at all.

[ Picking it up, Setsuna gives it a sniff. Immediately, his ears shoot upright, pupils widening to saucers. ]

...it's good. [ He's about to offer it to Zephyr when a sudden noise coming from behind them, like the trampling of footsteps, catches his attention, followed by frantic voices. His muscles tense, body put on alert. ]

We weren't followed in here, were we?

[Zephyr is more than a little interested with the catnip. After Setsuna's reaction, who wouldn't be? Bad timing, though.

He hmphs and turns around, facing the noise, watching the parade of shadows on the cavern walls.]

That or the cavern residents aren't happy to have guests.

[His hand is already behind him, hovering over his holster and guns. He glances back to Setsuna.] You bring a weapon?

[ Setsuna nods, drawing some of his knives. ]

Of course.

[ They wait tensely for awhile, as the sounds amp up in volume, until they can be more clearly heard as.. meowing? Setsuna barely has time to inquire what's going on before the duo is surrounded!

"Ach! Eindringlinge!"

Wait, were those—

Yes, indeed they were.

Setsuna and Zephyr were now entrapped by talking, tiny kitten Nazis. They are, without a doubt, the cutest villains you've ever seen.

The supposed leader of the group, sporting a peg leg and an eyepatch, thrusts his (also tiny and adorable) rapier forward accusingly, speaking in an inexplicable German accent.

"Vhy haff you come heah, tall vones? Explain yourselfs!"

Setsuna is dumbfounded. Zephyr is... well, how do you react to this turn of events? ]

[ Zephyr is every bit as dumbfounded. His hand holding his gun sways and his eyebrows knit. He definitely looks back to Setsuna now. They're surrounded by vicious kittens with swords. No, no, he can't bring himself to be intimidated by this. He can't even take this seriously.

Maybe he and Setsuna already had a little too much of that fabled catnip.

After one more glance to make sure the nazi, pirate kittens were really still there and still real, he looks back to Setsuna and raises an eyebrow.]

Do you think this would count as animal abuse?

[It's quiet and in bad taste, but a few dead cats wouldn't make a dent on his conscience. He just huffs, though. He's not going to be the one to start a war with kittens.]

Give me a break. Why do you think we're here?

[ Setsuna just eyes Zephyr warily, shrugging his shoulders without saying a word.

The leader huffs and spazzes indignantly at Zephyr... though it winds up being more d'awwww inducing than anything else.

"Indeed, indeed! Zat is ze question I haff asked you! How fiendishly clever of you to turn it around upon me! But I vill not be fooled by such petty tricks! Not I, Ziegfried, Leadah of ze Glorious Purred Reich!"

Somewhere, a kitten probably died at that terrible pun.

"Anyvay," Ziegfried struts forward on his teensy pair of jackboots, "ve can settle zis peacefully. Just hand over ze catnip, and no vone gets hurt!"

Setsuna looks a little hesitant to fork it over, though... what to do? ]

[All of this over catnip? This situation is so bizarre, his gaze shifts back to Setsuna for some sort of clue. Was it worth it upsetting a dozen cute kittens? The hesitance he spotted on Setsuna could be the answer.

After coming this far, though... Zephyr isn't keen on leaving without a reward. He turns his attention back on the tiny, threatening kitten. Never let it be said that cut could persuade Zephyr.]

Sorry, you're a little too late. Why don't you find your own catnip?

[The sudden feeling strikes him that if Leanne were here, she'd hit him over the head and start handing out catnip to nazi kittens.

It's definitely not a change of heart when he lowers his gun a little and nods towards Setsuna.] I guess you could ask this guy if he feels like sharing any of it.

[The cutest bear making the cutest confused growling noise.

Okay, what just happened?

Couldn't have anything to do with those scratches from that bear the other day... nah...]

[Souji is too fascinated by the way Mello seems to be moving and talking at twice the speed of a normal person to really protest being dragged along.

He does try to pick up his pace, though, and is secretly glad he's in good shape, compared to a lot of people here - moving this quickly doesn't push his lungs too hard]

I'm coming! I still don't think there's anything there, though...

Never-ending forests only happen in stories.

[Souji sounds very matter-of-fact about this. Not unlike a know-it-all kid, despite being way too old for that.

He pats the sword thrust through his obi]
